Well technically I had murdered this blog exactly a month back. And so today I am kind of writing this as I am thrust into jubilance for the anniversary ( the first month anniversary) of my engagement.
So, do I term it as Caesar did~~~ Veni, Vidi, Vici? Most groom meets bride episodes, especially when the groom is a non required indian, follow this edict. Groom waltzes into desh, mom lines up half a dozen "all decked up" 20 somethings. Guy holds a series of interviews, actually it is a quasi ridiculous ramp show where in the groom and his folks prod themselves copmfortably in the sofas while the rattled, nervous, decked up bride waltzes into the room. A few minutes of 20 eye balls focussing on the bride and then some obvious whispers all over the room, making critical remarks about the looks, the walk, the smile, the hair, the make up, the dress or the color.... the list is endless, depending upon the idiosyncracies of those 20 eyeballs.
A recent addition to this affair is an offshoot of people wanting to their modern side by letting the bride and the groom talk alone for a few minutes to decide. Its a farce from the word go for the following reasons:
1. Few minutes, huh....i think i spent more than few minutes thinking if I wanted the Calvin Klein boxers or the Ralph Lauren ones.
2. The decisions, whether by the guy or the parents or a collective one, have already been made in the first few seconds of the eyeballs-feasting-the bride.
3. A private conversation with another person with the doors open and a ton of people sitting next door. Imagine that!
Well, fortunately I ended up talking to Manogna for almost 2 1/2 months before we met and even though we had all the necessary ingredients of "Groom-met-bride" episode, we both felt as if the reazendevous was a continuation of one of our hour long conversations. We both said "yes" within a few minutes of meeting each other and thats why on 9th June, one month after our engagement, I am sitting here writing this.
Just to keep the facts straight, I planned and did meet only one bride, who now I call my fiancee!
